Can anyone name an AFL club that wouldn't have taken Buddy

He is a champion player

Every player is recruited to win premierships, but there are 17 other clubs in the competition trying just as hard to do that. Buddy's recruitment was not only to win games, but to secure the Swans as top dog in Sydney and bring in the membership & sponsorship dollars. The money side has paid off already, and few could criticise Buddy's efforts to win the flag in 2014.

The club is in a very healthy position. Sure, we didn't have the end to the season that we wanted but some of the negativity around here is ridiculous.

Maybe replace #32 (Jetta) with #32 (Talia) would be a good omen as he could keep his original number.

What about Lachlan Keefe for season 2017. Would have served his ban and be ready to go. He is a 204cm key position defender.

I read that he is having a crack at becoming a punter in the NFL. If that does not work out then we should look at him for 2017. He would be a free agent.

But "Ben Moore, Skill Acquisition" is listed as part of the coaching team. Who is he and what does he do?

He works for the Swans Academy Meg, and is the senior's "Goal Kicking coach". He's got a bit of explaining to do! And he does have an eminently sackable face. If for some reason Buddy can't play out the entire 9 years, he'd be perfect as "elite skills" coach. Our hand/foot candy and "don't argue" skills need a lot of work as much as the fundamentals. Buddy's a champion, he could probably coach and play.

In the end, 2015 has been a rotten year. Every team has had a humiliating game or 2. It wasn't a year for fairytale endings, not for Adelaide or for us... and if there's any justice in the world the Horks and Norf's fairytales will crash into a screaming heap soon too.

I'm glad we didn't have to risk Luke and Kiz doing possible further damage by coming back early, I'm glad Adam doesn't have to put up with any more mongrel barking... and I'm pretty damn proud how us supporters drowned out the rabid booers and stood up for Adam on forums & twitter & wherever. Special thanks goes to whoever the guy was that tipped his beer over the head of the Collingwood supporter holding up the banana. Kudos!

Let's hope whoever we trade in this year has a strong character and is willing to be a part of the Bloods, cause there ain't no room for wimps in Sydney!

Good pick up if he's like his brother, but couldn't make the Bulldogs side late in the season, or was he injured?

Hmmm, not sure what his KPIs might be but hard to believe he could have scored highly in his performance review!

And I agree with your second para above. I've put a big X through the 2015 season. We will regroup and go again next year.

As well as Heeney, Towers, Jones and Harry having big years next year, Sam Reid and Rohan, if only we can keep them on the park, should be getting closer to showing us their star-potential qualities!

Does Watts show any more than say Abe Davis potentially? Have you read Michael Talia's resume? Apart from his size he doesn't seem to offer any more than those already on our list. If we see a future for Xavier or Aliir we need to give them opportunities next year. To bring in Talia means he will have to have more to offer than those two. We really need a ready replacement for Mal/Shaw, someone more like a Yarran or Bennell but there are not many on offer!

I think both Yarran and Bennell have bad attitude. Bennell is an off field disaster waiting to happen and not on our radar. Yarran is lazy and doesn't seem to listen. I don't know about either of them. Talia is a definite for me, tall, strong and can only get stronger as he gets older. With all the help he will get from reg & Teddy he will be a very good player. I don't think Beverage has managed this lad very well. Beverage is very big on reproaching it seems even before the player has been found guilty.

I think Newman will replace Shaw and his delivery is far, far better. Both Bennell and Yarran have some problems with good decision making but Newman is cool.

We need to pick up a new ruckman as well as keeping Naismith who has just been given a three year contract. Smith is the bloke as far as I'm concerned. when he was first drafted he led Mummy on a long run and kicked a super goal. I think his problem as Suns is he isn't happy. Bring him to Sydney and I'll guarantee he will be 10 times the ruckman.

Players who I see heading elsewhere or retiring

Craig Bird

As much as this pains me as I am a Birdie fan I think his time is unfortunately up at Swans. He hardly played a game this year and while good he didn't exactly slaughter and star in the NEAFL. He would be a good pick up for a team that needs a strong experienced player, Suns, Dees, Blues, Saints etc. He could be a trade offered in the Smith deal.

Tom Derrickx

Poor old Tom is just not good enough and will be moved on.

Harry Marsh

Three years on the list and still hasn't played an AFL game so he's gone. History says no team keeps a bloke any longer who hasn't made a debut.

Lewis Jetta

As we all know Jetts wants to go home and we should negotiate a trade of a fast young player for him.

Adam Goodes

It had to happen sooner or later. He went out on his terms. good on Adam.

Rhyce Shaw

He retires after a great career after a pretty hard start.

He didn't exactly inspire in the reserves. His inability to take a big mark at 198cm is disappointing. I don't know whether he will be retained as we need to make room on the list. I know he is only on the rookie list but I think we might extend the senior list next year.




I think there are several players in their last season next year; Teddy Richards, Mike Pyke and Benny McGlinn. If I remember rightly Teddy signed a one year extension to his contract which means even he doesn't see much beyond next year. Pykie looked a little injury prone and then shot at the end of the year. Benny has been injured most of the year another year like this one and the club will tap him on the shoulder.

Our list needs several things. Yes we need a fast runner off the back flank if that is the sort of game we are developing. A tall defender who is ready and Talia fits this mould. A ruckman who is ready and Smith fits this. We need more speed as we can't rely on just Hiscox to develop. All the players we draft should have elite disposal skills. We seem to draft on hardness alone, not worrying about disposal skills and developing them later. I think in the AFL that is developing this is a mistake as elite skills are the thing that is winning premierships. Our first year reserves developed well this year often having to play teams that were much stronger due to only playing with between 10 and 13 listed players on most occasions. Injuries didn't just hurt the seniors, the reserves had their own problems with Naismith, Newman, Perris, Foote, Melican, Derrickx, Hiscox, Marsh, Hewett, Robinson and Aliir all spending time on the sidelines.

Hewett, Davis, Hiscox, Aliir (when he played), X Richards, Newman, Foote, Robbo, Davis and Rose all developed very well. Melican showed promise early before getting injured and looked to be just getting into the rhythm when the season ended after only 3 games. We need to add a couple of young experienced players like Talia and Smith to the list to fit in with this bunch. I don't think we are too far away but we need to strengthen the list slightly and make sure our skills are up to scratch. This to me means the experienced players coming back early with the kids and practising their skills over and over again until they are smooth and slick. The major offenders when it comes to @@@@ kicks are not the young players but the more senior players.

Being a sticky beak here, and all that. I know Jetts wants to go home to WA to family etc. But something that Tom Harley slipped was that his kids were over there. Had Jetts parted with his partner and she has taken the family back to WA? Just wanting to know if anyone knows something factual.

If so, no wonder this year wasn't his best. ...hope we can do a good deal for him.

Yarran is a downhill skier, and not suited to the day to day grind of being in our backline. Jack Watts has all the makings of a good player,
and how he hasn't turned into a blubbering mess considering the sheer mass of criticism he's got since someone else made him a #1 draft pick
is beyond me. He just needs to be anywhere but Melbourne. Look at Laidler, couldn't get a regular game at Carlton, now look at him!

Very good point. Perhaps worth pursuing. We need more blonds anyway.

No, we can only trade in one player on a salary over the competition average, and then only up to the value we trade out. I believe we can trade in (or sign as free agent) as many as we wish under the average salary.

Thanks Liz for the clarification. That is a little better than I thought but the limit the AFL set us is $450,000 and I would have thought Jetta would have been worth more than that.

I suspect this is just a punctuation/interpretation problem. Harley's quote was:
"?It?s disappointing to have Lewis request a trade but we totally understand why,? Harley told SwansTV. ?He?s got two young kids and family in Perth."

I understood him to mean that both Jetta and his wife have family in Perth and as they have two young kids they want to be close to their families.
