Has Nankervis played much footy in the ruck? 198cm is on the smaller side for ruckmen. Seems to be used more as a key forward and I think he's a bit too slow and awkward for that role.

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

All this talk about needing to trade in (and presumably pay a reasonable salary to) another ruckman would seemingly be against our longer-term planning when we decided to sign Buddy. We had Mummy who we had to let go due to salary cap considerations. To me it says that we figured we'd just muddle along in the ruck department for a few years and hope one of our youngsters comes good and is able to support Pyke. With Pyke remaining an ongoing option that is. Nor did we recruit Tippett as a ruckman although he has done a sterling job this year helping out.

I don't see us spending too much, in terms of draft picks, players and/or money, on what are average ruckmen.

Type the exact words of the article heading and do an Internet search in 'private' mode. You get around the block most times.

CARLTON recruiting chief Stephen Silvagni is preparing a raid on up to four opportunity-starved Greater Western Sydney players.

The Blues have strong interest in exciting wingman Liam Sumner (No.10 draft pick), defender Lachie Plowman (No.3), goalsneak Jed Lamb (No.21) and former rookie-listed ruckman Andrew Phillips.

The mooted deal could be a four-for-one swap, with the Giants handing over a group of players in return for a late first-round or second-round draft pick from Carlton.

              Short article.

I am feeling the same as Nico re: or ruck stocks. Typo is now in the very good bracket and an introduction of Nank next season could/should see growth. I think he just needs confidence. He has gotta be more competitive than Myke. If he gets tired throw TomD in for a couple of rounds, I still think he is better than the general RWO consensus, he at least throws his body into contests and can play a "tagging" role on some of the lesser rucks.
                No Leuenberger please.
I am happy to get Talia if he is cheap and we can afford him after ensuring we have the points for Mills covered

Trading 4 1st rounders, all of whom have shown some varying promise, for 1 late 1st rounder or early 2nd rounder....really???

Lamb and Phillips for a lare first rounder maybe but all four, clearly SOS is deluded. No way they'd be letting Plowman in particular go.

Throw in all four in exchange for Pick 1 and Jacob Weitering perhaps.

GWS will be very active again as they top up their list - They have Pick 8 from their own finish plus Pick 7 (plus the rest) from the Pies for Treloar, Pick 16 (plus the rest) from Freo for McCarthy which the will use to recruit two absolute guns from their academy plus change.

I'd imagine if they trade these guys theyd be quite happy to take a first round pick from next season.

With the currency they are getting for their "rejects" GWS should have 3-4 first round picks for the next 5 or so years.

Absolutely. A former first round pick that has played outstanding footy at times, has rounded out his game where it was deficient and is likely one of the elite kicks in the competition (the Eagles' achilles heel until this year I would say). Would be a very good pick up for them at that price.

Plowman is the only of those who are any good, correct. Typical of Carlton in recent years. Didn't they recruit ex Swan, Dick, last year. Go for it boys and put yourselves back even further. Surely not Jed Lamb. Talk about topping up rubbish with more rubbish.

I like the fact we are investing heavily in the development of the players we have drafted.

The late development and his astonishing late season form show the benefits of patience. Remember a lot of these guys are just kids when we draft them and I think many clubs look for a quick return. I like our old fashioned approach of doing an apprenticeship in the twos unless of course you are a freak like Isaac.

I guess only the coaching staff can say whether they believe Aliir Aliir can be an AFL footballer but if the answer is yes then they should keep him and the other class of 2013 member not to have debuted yet (Hewett).

You'd have to question whether they will keep Harry Marsh given he has had three years in the ressies and not a taste of senior footy.

With Goodes, Shaw and Jetta gone and Bird and Robbo rumoured trade bait we have five out.

Six in with a defender (Talia) a Ruckman (Smith) Mills, Dunkley, Naismith and you'd think one other draftee. Harry and Aliir would have to be the two under review.

Can we go with two draftees and one upgrade? If so then maybe we'll limit our drafting to that

Gill said in yesterday's paper that the AFL needs 18 strong teams and after the record broadcasting deal would be putting more money into the lower levels, especially in the heartland (assuming he means Victoria).

With all the bleating regarding the academy picks (from you know who) maybe they should invest more money into the non traditional academies instead of expecting the 4 northern clubs to invest the majority of the money. Just my opinion.
