If you take the Dustin Martin case as an example, assuming the accuracy of the reporting, then he's been offered 800k at Richmond, but would not leave for less than 1 million. So it takes a bit extra to pry a player away from his club if he's happy there. In the Dusty case, at least 200k more. Could we extrapolate and say that if we offered Zak 500k and a 5 year deal, it would take a 700k pa deal for him to leave?
Of course Zak will get some nice offers from a few clubs. Every quality player out of contract will be experiencing the same, especially now with the extra cap space. I suppose we will see how good Tom Harley is this year.
We also don't know how many of those big signings in Parker, JPK, Hanners, Heeney and Mills have salary cap increase adjustment clauses in their contracts and how many are fixed.Comment

The numbers that are being bandied about might seem high, but if you add 20-25% to current salaries then not so much e.g. a $500k player would be a $600k player, an $800k player would now be worth $1million.
I also think most players play primarily to win premierships NOT for the $ and that's a huge reason why players want(ed) to go to Hawthorn and not to North Melbourne. From that POV if the Swans do badly this year it's good for draft picks but could be bad for player retention, unless it's obvious that it's a one year blip.Comment

Every player manager would have been requesting such a clause, and the only way they would have accepted a deal without would be i) if the contract was so significant it essentially built the adjustment in, or ii) for a fringe player without a lot or bargaining power.Comment

Reid has been a tease for most of his career, and has a relatively fragile body.
If letting him go to a Melbourne club will get us a first round compensation pick....I'd take it in a heartbeat.
I'm still gutted we let Nankervis slip through our fingers....Especially after already letting Mummy go.
He and Naismith would of complimented each other really well and may well have become the best double act in the comp.
If Tippett continues to underperform, there is no way we should keep him beyond his current contract.
As for Sinclair , he is nothing but an average backup.
We need to find a new ruck/forward soon, to go in tandem with Naismith...Fingers crossed Cameron offers something.
Jones is quickly becoming the most promising young midfielder on our list (along with Heeney), I love the way he goes about it....IMO we should make him our absolute priority.Comment

At last a sensible post... Jones is a priority especially as we lost Mitchell because we could not pay him any more. I cannot believe people are complaining about letting Reid go?? Even when he is fit, he plays a good game about 1 in every 4. We can move him on, especially if it helps keep Jones.
And in this insane over-inflated market we may well elect to lose both as crazy as it seems. If it means having close to an additional million to carry forward and front load a few deals and go to the draft with three first round picks and quite likely five inside 40. A gun KPF with our first pick, three mids with the next and an additional KPD with our pick 40+. I honestly think we can write off being better than GWS for the next three years so why not start a rebuild with 2020 as the year we are genuine contendersComment

However, if he continues to play in his current role then I too wouldn't be against a trade.Comment

He's been tried off half back numerous times and he just doesn't find enough of the ball. His career average of 10 disposals doesn't change much where ever he play's. Those sorts of numbers are unacceptable in the backline. Though those numbers are a little more tolerable up forward when combined with his forward defensive pressure and goal threat. Whilst he is certainly athletic, i don't think he has a lot of footy smarts. He has limitations, but he performs a role in the team. Once I lowered my expectations, i am happy with that.Comment
