And that was an equally crazy player market with GWS throwing silly money around.

I think we'll keep one of the two but it may not be a bad thing to lose them both. If we keep one we won't be on the player market at all but if we lose both I expect we will have the cap space and more importantly the picks to make deals happen.

I would very much like us to get in the play for Stephen May should he be available and our deals fall over. He is a young KPD with his best years ahead. Whilst he won't be cheap the going rate for elite defenders is always below that of the equivalent mids and KPDs. It would set up our backline for the next decade with the likes of Melican, Maubain and Aliir in the wings and we could offer fair compo. An early first rounder and late second rounders or two late first rounders could get that deal done I think and that would still leave us with some early picks of our own.

I'd prefer to keep the two first round picks. I think we need a KPF more than we need a KPD at the moment and we've got one in Reid. I'd be pretty disappointed if we let Reid go because we weren't willing to pay what he's worth (?600K) then recruited Stephen May on more cash than it would've cost us to keep Reid! I think we need to sign Reid first and worry about Jones second

Which I think should be the priority changes from week to week, depending on which was more important to the recent game. They both bring something to the side that we don't have in abundance - versatile and fairly experienced height in one case, ball-winning speed in the other.

I've got to the point of not worrying about it and just hoping that things will work out well, while enjoying the mini-renaissance that the team has cobbled together. I do think both should be a far higher priority than any players not currently at the club. If we lose either, the biggest hole on the list will be a player of exactly the kind lost.

Like Jones want to keep him but we don't need to pay overs for him, I solid offer below the other mids that is back ended

There is a kid on the list named Oliver that is every bit in the mould of a line breaking Midfielder
ala letting Mitchell go cos of the other boy named Heeney

New article in Herald Sun quoting Andrew Ireland saying he's confident Jones will stay. Reid as well.also, Harley may replace him at the end of next season when he will be retiring. Done a power of good work for us.

Good to hear Zak will probably stay. Sorry to say but Reid has to go, history has shown he will only ever be a good to average player with occasional bigger games. Happy to trade Reid for someone with good foot skills and speed. If Aliir has peaked then he will easily fit the role of good to average player with occasional great highlights; if he goes to a higher level all the better. Has much bigger upside then Reid

This is harsh but I too have found Reid's lack of four quarter efforts frustrating but some of his games this year have been as good as I've seen him play.

I'd like to keep him but not at any cost. I suspect he will get offers around the $800,000 mark but for mine that is a lot for what you get with him. I think an offer around the $600,000 would be fair (his current deal plus the 20% TPP uplift) and his true market value. It's then up to Sam to decide what his motivation is.

Top 10 pick heading our way, first since 2009. Kinnear Beatson now having to plan to watch more pointy end kids.

So HS now saying Jones not joining his brother at Melbourne but staying, oh what a surprise. Sounds like a signature is imminent.

So is it only Reid amongst required players now still to sign?

No way an offer of 600k gets it done. He's a kpf that is versatile, 26 years old, played 100 games & coming into his prime. He's worth 800k and that's what he'll get offered by other clubs and the Sydney offer will be closer too 800 than 600.

Well if you are right he is gone IMO. He'll get offered $800K but I doubt we'll go much above $600K so it becomes down to what drives Sam lifestyle wise.

Personally I'm not sure a KPF who gives glimpses of his ability but rarely delivers a four quarter performance is worth $800K a year but we live in crazy times.

IMO he'll get offered around 700-750k by Sydney n he'll stay. He was on 500k last contract so then you factor in the 20% extra in the cap n then the expected pay rise due to age, versatility, coming into his prime n the fact their is not one player on the list atm that is even close to what we need if he left. If you want a KPF to star in games regularly you'll be paying closer to a million. FFS schache is getting offered 700k. It's not crazy times it's what the market place pays. People said the same thing when Deisel got an extra 50k to move to Sydney, Lynch a million on 10 year contract was madness n would destroy Brisbane, Buddy to Sydney was rediculous when first reported. It happens every decade n every club doesn't get wrecked from it. It's not crazy times it's just moving with the times.

750k wouldn't go close to getting them. May is their captain n an elite chb, Daniher is the most promising young up n coming forward. For players of that type of caliber you'll pay closer to a million like I said.

So that kind on contract we will get Band 1 compo, straight after our first rounder which could be as high as 4.
Reid goes to a big offer from Vic and we have picks 4 & 5, plus another $6-700, 000 to use elsewhere, yeah, I'd settle for that!
