Terrible time of year for these kids who get delistedComment

List down to 32 (Towers, Foote, Tippett, Hanners, Newman, Rohan) plus Ronke so now 33. Five places to fill at this stageLast edited by 707; 2 October 2018, 06:30 PM.Comment

I think he's more of a meat and potatoes kind of midfielder than a silky star but the prospect of him in exchange (in whole or part) for Hanners is more appealing than a future second round pick. At least he'd help fill the bit of an age void we have on the list in that mid-20s, 100 game bracket.
Plus the Saints have a silly abundance of Jacks on their list - six currently, not to mention a Jake, a Jade, two Joshs, a Jarryn and a Jimmy.Comment

Also a bit surprised that Pink wasn't delisted. Maybe management forgot he is on the list?
I don't think he was already delisted, was he?Comment

Not sure Hall was really an omission as he was an established "star", albeit a troubled one. The rest of the players you listed were classic fringe players. Maybe Mattner is another exception in that he was a regular in the Crows' senior team before he moved, but I got the feeling he had been advised to look elsewhere for more future opportunities. The rest were not really wanted by the existing club, or wanted but still stuck behind a fair few in the queue for a regular senior game (eg Mumford).Comment

I hope we are looking to play Newnes on the wing and not in the backline. It doesn't sound like he provides much defensive pressure.

There are a couple of other names missing from the list of delistees - Fox, Pink, Robinson. Robbo asked for a trade last off-season but no other club was much interested. Maybe they'll offer him around again. If no-one bites, he's a handy depth player to keep on the list, if he's happy to hang around on that basis. Similarly Fox might be worth hanging onto for another year. Doubt he'll push his way into the best 22 but he's OK as the 22nd player picked when there are some injuries.
The non-naming of Pink at this stage suggests that maybe they still see something in him. I acknowledge injury robbed him of any chance to improve this year, but I struggle to see him taking the step to AFL level in the near future (ie two or three years), at least as a forward. He just doesn't seem to have the instincts or mongrel. If you compare his first year to the raw and imperfect first year of Amartey, they were poles apart.Comment

Foote a little unlucky with injuries. Hard as nails and never got a prolonged crack at it. Wonder if Gold Coast will be interested in him and Towers who could easily have played more games but club chose to keep blooding youngsters. More than useful AFL standard player.Comment

Even though we could see it coming, I'm a bit perplexed as to what bought about Towers downfall. I think Markwebbos has it right...."Will we ever find out #whatDeanoDid?"Comment
