Partially, but that won't come into play with Blakey. The two picks we've just traded in from Carlton will be used for Blakey. They cover any bid from pick 6 onwards. If it comes later, there will be a little loose change at the end (ie pick 28 won't be wiped but will just be moved to the back end of the draft). A bid at pick 7 will leave residual value of pick 65. A bid at pick 10, say, will leave residual value of pick 49.

In summary:
The early picks we have in 26 and 28 give us so much opportunity for trades for important players and I think we will use them that way as we have protected the mid 20 picks
Ie we now have so many draft pick points to protect the Blakey draft in 33,38,40,67 and or small negative points taken into next year
Plus pick 61 the cats have been reported this morn for Rohan which is disappointing unless we get more
and maybe a this year pick from saints or 2nd round next year"be tough, only when it gets tough"

You win some, you lose some. Pick swaps for 600 odd extra points = win. Rohan for Pick 61 = loss. Bye Gaz. I wish you well.Comment

Originally posted by AFL.comNORTH Melbourne midfielder Ryan Clarke is set to become a Sydney player on Wednesday in exchange for a late draft pick, most likely No.69 overall.
The out-of-contract Clarke met with the Swans recently after North told him it could not give him an answer on his future until the end of the NAB AFL Trade Period.
It had seemed Clarke could get to Sydney in a straight swap for Swans defender Nick Newman, who toured the Roos' Arden St headquarters two weeks ago.
However, it's understood the Kangaroos will no longer pursue a deal for Newman given they are set to snare Port Adelaide defender Jasper Pittard as part of the Jared Polec deal that will be finalised on Wednesday morning.Comment

Not really. It's worth just pick 61 as it won't be relevant to the Blakey bid. Points are only relevant if there are other academy players likely to be nominated and bid upon (which seems highly unlikely - a handful might be worthy of a rookie spot). I guess it could be packaged with an existing pick to move that up in the order, but it's unlikely anyone will place value on 61 enough to downgrade an earlier pick in return.Comment

Clarke for either of our picks 61 or 69 is a great result...
He has plenty of upside....Gaz, hmmm little to no upside.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

Wouldn’t be surprised if new north melb assistant coach Rhys Shaw doesn’t still help Newman get to north"be tough, only when it gets tough"
