Is this the twilight zone? No club would take that unless they had something planned with another club and even then it’s a pretty bad trade.

Are you serious?
I know the points system is indicative only but those two picks have about 600 additional points attached.
They’re good picks.
Not every club would trade pick 14 for those two in the 20s but a lot wouldComment

I think higher teens picks are required for trades and this is where we would get asked.
Personally,
Single digit Picks are priceless, drops off very quick after that to a more team needs basis
We got maybe 3 games into our Draft class from last year.
Id suggest Sheldrick and Cambpell are in the 22 next year.Comment

Two things - 1) I’m almost certain that I’ve read Cunningham has at least come to terms, if not signed for two years. If I were Gold Coast or North I would have been targeting him as genuinely solid, mature player. 2) Our picks will be 15 and 18 not 14…although we might “trade” 14 it will be 15 on the night after the Lions use pick 1 on Ashcroft. But 18 will stay the same as the Lions have to use their first pick (currently 16) in securing Him. Unless they mess everything up by trading out that pick and using 4 picks in the 20s or something. That would be annoying as it would put us back to 19!????"I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment

Brisbane will not use their first pick for Ashcroft points. As every club before them has done, they will trade their first for two or three lower picks that total a lot more points. Gold Coast hold a fistful of seconds and thirds they won't use and GWS will end up with quite a number after they trade out four players.
Ashcroft almost certain to be bid on by Norf (after they stupidly didn't bid on Daicos and Darcy last year) so every pick in the draft (up to the picks Brisbane extinguish in matching Ashcroft) will go out by one place.
There's also the spectre of Norf Priority Pick/s pushing out picks but I suspect at best Norf will be granted the first pick of the second round, as Brisbane were a few years back after the "Go Home Five" episode.
Would we swap a teens pick for two in the 20's? Depends on who we think will be there at our teens pick and who we think will be there at our two 20's picks. This year is reported to drop off after the first 8-9 picks and then be very even for the next 20 or so, all opinion of course.
There will be a lot of pick trading this year which goes on until a few days before the draft. It will also include swapping picks between this years draft and the 2023 draft. Will we be involved ? Who knows? but in our recruiters I trust, they know so much more than us.Comment

As for pick 14 vs. 20 and 26, I think I would stick with pick 14 this year because we have more need for quality than quantity. I think we should use pick 14 for the best KPP available at that pick. I hope Isaac Keeler is still available. There might be other circumstances when the 2 later picks would be preferred.
I hope the news on the impending signing of Gould is true. I think he's the right fit for our current situation, in that we already have a good backline with taller players, but need to have a few younger ones for depth and future planning. I don't mind that Logue has chosen North over us, if we were indeed in the running. For the reasons stated, it's a better fit for Logue, who is good, but maybe not good enough for our best defensive lineup.
If we can get Gould for just a 1 year extension, it must mean that there wasn't much demand for him. Good VFL form is not enough to earn a big contract, which seems fair enough.
If Melican can find a new home, I would be happy to trade him for a pick in the 40s.
Things could fall well for us on the list management front this year. So far, it's looking okay.Comment

When doing the pick number calculations, I don't worry about the those players headed to designated clubs, like Ashcroft. I just leave those players out of the calculations completely. It doesn't matter that we effectively drop down by a pick. In my thinking, with still have pick 14, with Ashcroft excluded, He was never really in the live draft anyway.Comment

Why would we do that given we will most likely only take 3 picks in the national draft given our current list status. If anything I can see us upgrading our picks to a higher position in the draft if there is a player we have an eye on.Comment

If you give me $100, I’ll give you a $50 and a $20 ????Comment

I did mention Jez McLennan as a possibility for us in a VFL post I made. Was speaking to his girlfriend at the game we lost at Blacktown to the Gold Coast reserves and he's been having talks with the SwansComment
