North have offered pick 43. According to Inside Trading: Saint on Suns' radar, Port's Esava move, Pies' forward squeeze (afl.com.au), North's list boss has said pick 43 was the initial offer, but "obviously, they (Sydney) would probably want a little bit more than that."

Sydney definitely want more than a rubbish pick in a shallow draft that is unlikely to get used. North have three first-round picks this year (including the AFL assistance pick) and will end up with four after McKay leaves North Melbourne for Essendon. They can spare pick 19. Pick 19 for Stephens plus a swap of later picks should be doable.
That was my thought too, one of their plethora of end of first rounders (this year or next) for Stephens, with a swap of later picks. He can obviously walk to the PSD but 43 is definitely unders.

            43 isn’t far off what I thought,
As previously discussed he could just walk for nothing so our hand isn’t a strong one on this deal and he doesn’t want to play for us he has a deal in front of him
He gets another go simply because he’s a pick 5, will be delisted form norths in 3 years

I am aware it’s a forum of opinions, and I can spot the difference between those and “dumb tough talk."

The thing is, you have a bit of a history of disparaging and even baiting those who occasionally express concerns or doubts about the Swans - the RWO "Doubting Thomas'"

And it’s looking more like an agenda than opinion.

Without Captain or Dow or caj23 or Cosmic Wizard or the other "Doubting Thomas'" expressing their thoughts this wouldn't be a discussion forum. It'd just be groupthink.

And while I certainly can't say I agree with a good chunk of their assertions, I see no reason to hector or bait them as has become your habit. They provide at least as much food for thought and certainly a wider range of opinion than "Legolanders".

I hear what you're saying, and I am also a bit frustrated by Mensa. On the other hand, yesterday Charlie Gardner said "We think Pete Ladhams is developing nicely" - which compared to us curmudgeons, sound positively buoyant.
While I expect him see a lot of action in the 2's. It will be very good to have a pair of ready-to-go ruckman, rather than depending on those who are on their last legs, or just taking baby steps, or are unsuited to the role. It will also give us the option of playing both should the situation warrant it.

Charlie G was pretty clear we need more leaders and we can be active this off season to make it happen.

Sounded like they are fairly strong on James Jordon talking about they liked him in his draft year also.

We have identified Grundy and Adams because it is likely to happen ie these two players would generally only nominate when they also think it is a good chance to happen.

Now both clubs but more the Pies need to posture their comments in the media to partly appease the crazy supporters and media.

Looking forward to the week ????????

Would say 95% of my posts have been positive, so not sure how that classifies me as a doubting Thomas.

You are absolutely correct about the agenda though. There are 2 or 3 specific posters that can't have a civil disagreement and instead result to basic abuse and hostility. I have posted on here for almost 20 years but over the past few years it has definitely been hijacked by these posters.

Not sure there's much point in that. We probably need to use pick 31 to get one of Adams or Grundy. If we land up with pick 19, either Melbourne or Collingwood will ask for that instead. There'd only be a point in doing it if it became clear that neither Collingwood nor Melbourne was going to accept pick 31 in return for their player.

It's very hard to get a read on what players are actually worth (or tradeable for), given all the posturing that goes on in trade week. But both Grundy and Adams are contracted, so we have to come to the party to some extent. To us, Grundy is clearly the more valuable of the two. He fills a need we have a desperate need for. But it's also hard to see Melbourne hanging on to him unless we completely refuse to trade fairly. Leaving him out of their finals team and picking Schache instead sent a clear signal they had emotionally parted ways with Grundy.

It seems as if North are going to have to split one of their first round bonus picks to get Stephens and Fisher. It really comes down to which club gets the pick (and maybe sends something back) and which gets the left overs. Fisher is contracted, so Carlton possibly have a stronger hand, but only if they actually want to keep hold of Fisher. I suspect they don't.

North will probably prefer to use a future pick than the current one, because the future ones might evaporate if they don't use them this year. That would probably suit us fine. We may only take two players in the National Draft this year, and if they think one of them will be Cleary, we have little need for anything after our first pick.

Given Charlie Gardiners comments and given we have already shown part of our hand in identifying experience and bring them in I wonder if we will copy somewhat the draft and trade in experience that the Pies did in 2022. They walked and chewed gum still drafting with picks 15,25,27 and 51.

Therefore giving up Stephen’s for an exchange of picks ie we give Stephen’s with pick 31 for 19 in return gives us as very flexible strong hand for this draft or to strengthen the next like we did with Hawthorn last year.

                            Picks 11, 19, 22, 41, 49

                            ………

Below you can see how the Pies used their trades Free Agency and draft picks in 2022

                            Who arrived:

Tom Mitchell for picks 41 & 50 to Hawthorn and Oli Henry to Geelong

Dan McStay free agent and AFL compo

Bobby Hill for pick 40 / to GWS with future 2nd rounder

Billy Frampton future 3rd rounder to Adelaide

Who left: Brodie Grundy for pick 27, Oliver Henry and received picks 41 & 50 as above

                            2022 NAB AFL Draft picks: 16, 25, 27, 51

Future picks: Traded out a future second-round (Greater Western Sydney for Hill) and third-round pick (Adelaide for Frampton).

This is a snapshot of the draft combine results. Cleary managed 5th place in the 2km time trial.

West Australian bolter blitzes draft combine - Aussie Rules Rookie Me Central

The guy that they feature, Zane Zakostelsky, is somebody who could be on our radar, if we're looking for a KPD and miss out on O'Connor and Murphy. He's a 196cm West Australian basketball convert, who reportedly rapidly improved as the season progressed. And his numbers are probably a little bit more impressive, when you consider that he was the youngest player at the combine.

I've never thought of Thomas as being negative at all, nor do I think positivity (or negativity) is really the issue here. Stevoswan tends to attack any divergent opinion (and opinion holders) regardless of the positivity or otherwise of a post. Nor does it take very much non-conformity, sometimes just the suspicion seems to be enough to elicit a mocking response. It's a bit reminiscent of the confected rage that fills talkback radio.

I don't see anything wrong with disagreement, you and I have certainly done so over the years. I think what bugs me is the responses seem hair-trigger adversarial, I prefer it when critiques are more reasoned - more collaborative/collegial. It's a thought I've shared via PM several times with some RWOers, to only temporary effect in some cases to no effect whatsever in the case of others (hi to footyhead or thebloods if you're lurking).
