Why is it that every second year, the punters seem to want to punt Reid? If he is not going to be fully fit, then you can flick him.
He's 31!! We are trying to recruit two players (Grundy and Adams) who are just about the same age.
Rampe is 33.
Reid would be clearly in our top 22.
But, he would be a great aquisition for a team like the Gold Coast.Comment

So we now have picks 12, 33, 44, 46 and 53……plus North's end of first-round pick next year as at 11/10/23
Seems possible 33 and our future first rounder will be used to finish of Grundy and Adams trades?
I wonder if there is a club with academy selections that may need our current collection of 44,46 and or 53? And we do a swap for a better pick up the order?
Then we go with 12 and ?"be tough, only when it gets tough"

That puts pay to Melbourne and Collingwood eyeing off pick 25.
That's probably a pretty fair price for Stephens. What it does for getting this year's trades done I have no idea. Will we land up giving that future first away for either Grundy or Adams? I hope not, but it's hard to rule it out.
I'd be offering up a future second and our current earlier second to Collingwood and Melbourne. They can fight over who gets what. And if we have to throw in other late picks, so be it. They have little value to us.Comment

That should put the cat among the pigeons, trading out pick 25.
Seems a pretty good deal to me. I’d imagine we’ll let MEL and COL fight over what’s left 33 and upComment

I think it is a game changer
Because a future first rounder tied to north means “if u want that pick come and get it vs pick 33”
Secondly we will probably want a pick in return
Maybe a future second rounder? Or something now"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Collingwood will probably ask for that future first for Adams. They need something to send to Freo if they are to get Schultz. But Schultz should cost them more at the trade table than they get for Adams, given the age disparity. And the Pies don't have much to send back to us if we were to part with that future first. Their future second is likely to be around pick 40 next year.
None of us knows how Beatson and Dalrymple view this year's draft. Is there someone likely to tall in the early teens who they like the most? Or is the lure of trading up to the top ten still there? (ie are they as seduced by the idea of O'Sullivan as most of us?) it might be possible to use that future first to trade up to the Cats' pick. But that wouldn't assure us of O'Sullivan. GWS might be eyeing him off for similar reasons to us (even if they have less immediate need of a quality, developing tall, with a few already on their list). We could try to trade for GWS's top ten pick, but they won't do that if they have their eyes on O'Sullivan. And maybe they won't do it regardless after last year. They're probably "not talking to us".Comment

Picks 44 and 46 are worth around a pick 28 in points. Maybe that will become one of offerings for Adams of Grundy? Those picks come in after GC and others use multiple picks for the priority selections. We might be able to trade them up and consolidate them into one pick. Like maybe for GC's 31 and 61, leaving us with pick 12, 2 second round picks for the trades and enough points for Cleary. We might also trade down our 1st round pick to either Melbourne or Collingwood to make up a value deficit. Now that we are out of contention for moving up the draft order, our 1st round pick position isn't that important.
I don't think picks 44 and 46 do much for us and would think that we would like to use them for trades, if possible.
The Grundy deal is important to us, but I think we can pass on Adams if we can't get the deal we want. We should hold the cards in both deals.
I agree that we did well on the Stephens trade. Pick 19 will come in handy next year when I'm sure we will be doing some serious sorting out with our list.Last edited by Ludwig; 11 October 2023, 12:21 PM.Comment

I know Cleary is rated outside 2 rds but its risky leaving little points for him.
KB will know best but after what Gulden just produced, i wouldnt be surprised for an earlier bid on Cleary.
Freo got screwed for a top 10 bid on Henry

Also dont think anyone is trying to retire Reid, the harsh reality is that Sydney cant be reliant on him being in the 22, thats just a factComment

According to Melb media, Melbourne are aiming to stockpile dollars to attract key out of contract players in next year's 2024 draft. So if that's true, maybe Melbourne will accept the end of future first round pick we received for Stephens for GrundyComment

Rumours our Melbourne ran across to the table to chat with the Swans after the deal done for Stephen’s
Rumour is Melbourne are after out of contract Tom Hawkins
Would be a genius move by Melbourne"be tough, only when it gets tough"
