Totally agree with you. Some RWO poster’s seem to have short memories of Reid’s significant contribution to the team in 2022, and in my opinion had it not been for his forward and ruck work we would not have made the GF.
Adding Reid to Grundy, Adams, Jordan and Himilman is a major boost to our chances in 2024

All of the above is true but Reid has chronic injury problems and can't be relied upon physically. Amazing to me he is still on the list. Longmire loves him.

Given we are dealing with Melbourne already with Grundy and probably best placed to make things happen for Melbourne $

I just wonder if we are in ninja mode on Harrison Petty as well?

We could easily not re-sign Melican and Reid to make it happen on the list and financially and give up our pick 12 ?

Now that would complete what we need along with Grundy and Adams.

Hamling would be on peanuts also which is good cover but Petty would walk into our team

Petty has indicated he might like to return home to SA in the near future. Sydney is not in SA.

Melican at his best and injury free is helpful

I don’t think he would make it in the Geelong, Melbourne, Brisbane, Collingwood defensive units which is what we are up against to be the best in 2024 / 2025 in our window we are stacking right now

Sometimes the difference is small but significant when it comes to the best KPDs

For me there are a few gaps for Melican in his body work and nullifying the best forwards lead

His passing has improved and is faster and more reflexive which has been helpful on the rebound and a tick

Melbourne, maybe not. They have May and Lever.

As for the others, it’s not so clear cut. This time last year Brisbane fans were probably saying that about Payne. He blossomed this year with Gardiner out injured for much of it. Geelong played Ratagolea in defence for much of the year. I’d take Melican over him. And they are sometimes forced to play Kolodjashnij on much taller opponents. He might not fit Collingwood’s style of play, but I rate him as a defender over their backup in Frampton.

But matching player for player is rarely illuminating. Good teams (and I think we’re a good team) use what they’ve got to craft a system that works.

Don't think your maths is right there, best case scenario it's equivalent to pick 23, worse case it's pick 12.With such a generous deal, I can only hope that Melbourne is paying for some of his salary too.

These point equivalences are meaningless.

Pick 46 has little value for us this year if we also hold 44.

So the cost of this trade depends on where we finish next year. Wooden spoon and it’s close to 20. Premiership and its close to 40. We’ll find out in 50 odd weeks time.

Some quick chess moves outside of our chats with Melbourne and Pies put us in a strong position with Melbourne and also now Adams or better (if there is a couple moves we haven’t cottoned onto as yet)
