Swans v Collingwood Match Report
Sydney Swans vs. Collingwood Magpies Match Report
7.10pm June 25, ANZ Stadium
Now I?m probably one of the more optimistic Swans supporters and tip the Swans every week but even I didn?t have the greatest hopes for the Swans against Collingwood. The Swans went into this match with three changes to the team that was thrashed by Carlton ? Bevan, White and Everitt recalled for Mumford (suspension), Jetta (dropped) and Johnson (injury). The Pies got Swan back, fresh from his Arizona... -

Swans match report v Carlton
Swans v Carlton I was overseas during the early part of the season and had watched the swans play Carlton at the scg via the afl website. that's an interesting experience as you get a bit of a delay, you know ball kicked by number 5 to number 3 to number 4 who goals. this meant I approached the swans Carlton game without the preconceptions of those who had watched that game. However I have managed most of the subsequent games and must confess to being pretty apprehensive as I boarded the train ... -

Round 11, 2011 ? Yo Gabba Gabba!
Well last week was yet another heart-stopper from the Swans and after well and truly handing in their Get Out Of Jail Free card against North, Swans fans were hoping for a less stressful evening this week. Ominously for Sydney though, Brisbane had shown signs of life in the last two weeks, with successive wins following the return of Jonathon Brown, a player who has burned us before. The selection panel, in a move no doubt designed to both simultaneously delight and vex RWO members, picked fan... -

Round 10, 2011 - A win is a win!
Sort of forgot about the report until Sunday morning. I usually take a note pad and get my PA to take notes for me. However, my PA is doing VCE, and chose not to come. Which was a good thing for all around us, as she is chocked up with cold at the moment. Many thanks to the people who chose to spend the afternoon with me. It made for some light entertainment from a rather frustrating and stressful game. The game: We started bad, North could not capitalise on it, missing some relatively easy s... -

Swans v Hawks Round 9 Match Report: Reality Bites
Reality Bites
It?s never easy revving up the motivation levels required to pen a match report after a loss, especially one as emphatic as Sunday?s loss. I also empathise with prospective readers the difficulty experienced in having to re-live the horrors of a thrashing - my natural preference being to look forward to the upcoming match and chalking up the abject performance to just a bad day.
However to do so would be incredibly short-sighted as in truth,... -

Swans Short Circuit the Power
Swans Short Circuit the Power It's a daunting task to write up a report after the stellar efforts of our previous report writers but here goes. On a night so cold at the SCG I swear I saw penguins huddling around a heater , the Swans got the job done to the tune of 62 points. While the margin (our biggest in 3 years) was indeed impressive the manner in which it was achieved was less so. The first half saw some of the worst football the Swans have produced this year and lacked the intensity ... -

Horse gets across the line for maiden victory : Sydney v Essendon, Round 2 2011
The second round clash between the Swans and Bombers was all about the new boys going head to head. The Golden Boy vs The Longtime Apprentice. James Hird had thus far enjoyed a dream start to his senior AFL coaching career, guiding his Bombers side to a series of remarkable wins (the loss to the rampant Collingwood in the NAB Cup Final notwithstanding). In contrast, Sydney's John Longmire went about his business in quieter fashion - a mixed fare in the opening round of the NAB Cup, followed by... -

Hope Springs Eternal
** Pictures by ScottH It?s been a terrible off-season. The Socceroos lost in extra-time; the Victory were anything but; and Punter and his pals sank without trace. Never mind: a new AFL season and hope springs eternal. I drove up to town from Gippsland with my daughter - it took a couple of hours, so I had plenty of time to reminisce - plenty of memories from past Demons? confrontations. Schwartz and Dunkley going head to head, more intent on whacking each other than winning the ball. Dermo... -

Sydney vs Carlton - Elimination Final
When I put my hand up to write this week's match report, it was with the knowledge that it could turn out to be a eulogy to the football coaching and playing careers of Roos and Kirk. On the other hand, there was a good chance it would turn out to be a celebration of yet another pounding of the Blues on home turf. There were times during Sunday's game where I had started to write both versions in my head. In the end the game turned out to be neither of these, but rather an addition to the now ...

by joemoore12AFL Round 21 ? Sydney v St Kilda: Half Time Hero The more things change, the more they stay the same. This rings true for Swans supporters these days. We truly are a fortunate bunch. The winds of change have swept through the Sydney Swans like never before, yet we still get to cheer more often than jeer. A generation of Bloods heroes are slowly, but surely, moving on to the next chapter of their lives. Chapters that don?t necessarily involve us, the supporters. The game has changed. The g...

by joemoore12I am a simple man who enjoys simple pleasures. When the humdrum of a gloomy winter routine becomes a little mundane, it's time for a break. This year, my wife and I have opted for a trip from a chilly Hobart to the snow-laden, glacial wintry wonderland of Cradle Mountain. As per any dinky-di road trip, the supplies are plentiful, the stops are planned and the tunes are blissful. Life is all about the simple things and when your day includes visiting a proper country bakery and a cellar door wine...

by joemoore12When passengers boarded Virgin Australia Flight VA858 in Sydney last Friday afternoon. There was shock. There was horror. There was inconceivable confusion. There was a faceless man on board. 'Where is his face?' asked one bamboozled guest. 'He looks astonishingly boring' said another. 'No face, no hope' claimed a repulsed flight attendant. The Faceless Man is returning to a land where he once ruled with all the might of Julius Ceasar in Roman times. The snide remarks and puzzled sideways glances...

by joemoore12AFL Round 11 - Sydney v Geelong: Jumping Through (around, over and under) The Hoops For the past two weeks, I have revisited the bachelor lifestyle as my wife has been in the nation?s capital on a work assignment. My in-laws know all too well that my efforts to provide for myself have been questionable in the past, and so, offer a roast dinner which I simply cannot refuse. Tonight, the Swans play the Cats. My father-in-law is a proud Geelong man. In five years of knowing each other, and becomin...

by joemoore12AFL Round 16 - West Coast v Sydney: Where Were You? When the most credible of sources, 'Wikipedia' lists encounters between these two sides as an official rivalry, you know you're in for a serious afternoon of football. Fierce rivals over the past decade, the Swans and the Eagles have played out some high-stakes thrillers never failed to entertain. Whilst recent encounters have lacked the ferocity and tense finishes of previous battles, whenever these two modern-day giants meet, memories of past glo...

by joemoore12AFL Round 4 ? Sydney v North Melbourne: Minimum chips It?s not very often that you get to celebrate your birthday a month early. Fortunately for me, this year I did. As a gift from my wonderful wife, we flew from the Apple Isle to the Harbour City for a long weekend which included watching my beloved Swans take on The Enemy at the SCG. A true sporting icon, the Sydney Cricket Ground is without doubt my favourite place to visit. As a Swans supporter, there is no feeling like being surrounded ...
