Problem is that we have Bird, Bolton, LRT, Seaby to get back from injury, and not one other player "deserving" to be relegated, so where in hell is he going to fit in. Not enough room as it is. I like Ves, but to be fair to the bloke, perhaps St Kilda or Carlton could make better use of him this time round. We have done the same with B2, Jolls (at the time), Kennedy, Seaby, McGlynne, Mattner, given them gigs where they knew they would play, so perhaps it is only fair to give Vez a chance where he is needed

He is needed right here. Don't know what the problem is but it seems to be work eithic. Hopefully he can get that right because he is seriously talented and I'd hate to see him become a regular player elsewhere.

In terms of pure talent, he is in our top 5, if he can put it together and realise that talent he will be an important part of our next tilt at a flag

Vez has class, something the team is still not overflowing with. If he can get his body to an adequate level of fitness that will enable his class to shine through, he will become a valuable player (for whatever club he is with - I would like it to be with us). It shouldn't come down to which other players deserve to be relegated. The fact of footy is that evenutally all players will get pushed out of the "best 22", whether by age, drop of form, improvement of others or (for the best players) retirement.

The big question mark is whether he is capable of reaching the base level of fitness required. I don't think this year was entirely about just endurance. I think he had some other issue with his body (groins?) that was restricting his movement. He just didn't seem to be moving freely much of the time and it didn't just look like being out of puff. He certainly didn't look - to the eye - to be out of shape. Indeed he looked very trim, so his lack of mobility didn't see attributable to him not having kept himself in shape.

I guess only those inside the club understand the nature of his physical restrictions and/or whether his heart is still in Sydney or whether there are other issues.

Onfield, his biggest problem this year seemed to be that he tried to do too much, more than he was capable of, rather than a work ethic issue. It was almost like he had to prove he was superhuman at reserves level so he got a chance at senior level. In his one senior game, he wasn't trying to do more than just his role, and was arguably more effective as a result (albeit with limited game time). There may well be off-field work ethic issues but I didn't see much evidence of on-field work ethic issues.

I really hope he stays and flourishes. Hopefully the natural change brought about by a new coach is a good thing.

Using what shall henceforth be known as "Bedfords Law" (a name that should be familiar to some RWO posters), I came up with the following list of players that the club may target this year:
            • Dogs: Stack
            • Crows: Petrenko
            • Hawks: Lewis, Ellis,
            • Cats: Mackie, Kelly
            • Saints: McQualter
            • Blues: Russell, Walker, Simpson
            • Demons: Bartram, Morton
            • Bombers: Lovett-Murray, Davey, Prismall, Jetta
            • Tigers: Edwards, Moore, Polo, Jackson
            • WCE: Kennedy, Rosa, Waters, Spangher
            • Lions: Drummond, Raines, McGrath

I removed from the original list, "stars" & players that AFAIK, have signed contracts with their clubs in 2010.

Not many KPDs in the list (bolded players are KPD "size"), most are midfielders.

The club has indicated that they are looking for more KPF depth & pace.

Does anyone see a player that could potentially slot into the Swans best 22 next year?
The only players who i would consider would be Walker and Jetta as the most likely to be looking and available. I believe Jetta is the cousin of Lewis as well, though i might be wrong.
But those 2 would add value to our list IMO....Walker i think would do well in our Forward line he did well against us there in the finals..

I hope I'm wrong but I don't think anyone on our current list will play in 5 grand finals with us.
They wont play in 5 Grand Finals for the Saints, so what's your point? Schneider and Dempster have both won a flag with Sydney, something they're yet to do at St. Kilda.

I interpret Maxfield's comments as wanting to give Vez every opportunity to make it at Sydney. If anything he seems to suggest he was hard done by a bit this year in not playing more than one game. If Vez requests a trade though, it would be unlike the Swans to stand in the way.

The only trade I'd be happy seeing would be to Gold Coast as they may be tempted to give up one of the plethora of first round picks they've ridiculously been gifted.

There's another video with Kinnear Beatson today, cryptically titled "Total Access - NAB AFL Draft Combine Pt3"

Here's a summary for those who can't access the video

                    • Don't think we will be as active as last year, where we turned over about 12 players, but will keep an open mind on how to improve the list whether it's through the draft or trades.
                    • Asked about influence of SCG's dimensions on recruiting decisions - not so much the ground but the game style. Swans have traditionally had a lot of stoppages and John will continue this. Mindful of the fact if you want to play finals it will be at the MCG so they will have to play there, so really the SCG doesn't come into thinking at all.
                    • Vesz - slow preseason with a groin adductor problem. Thought it was OP but it wasn't, and it has held him back. Now about getting his aerobic conditioning up to AFL level
                    • LJ - Foot surgery last year, had little bit of a niggle on the hip late in the year which came at an inopportune time. Thought he needed surgery but in the end didn't.
                    • Both are contracted for 2011 and hope they will be influential players
                    • About the compromised draft - Talked about his experiences at the Lions during their premiership years where their first pick was about 18. There will always be players available in the 30s, 40s, 50s etc. Need a bit of luck. Want to find out where they are on and off the field
                    • Asked about potential leaders at the Combine - only midway through but named Mitch Wallis (who will go Bulldogs f/s) Dyson Heppell, Billy Smets on-field rather than off-field leader. Rhyce Conca WA U18s
                    • Asked about what is the key component at the Combine - said it's combination of the screenings and interviews, opportunities for coaches to sit with the players and go through their backgrounds. Trying to put the whole jigsaw puzzle together.
                    • Hanners - joked that he should get a bonus for Hanners winning the RS. A good year considering his shoulder injury and now shoulder surgery. A very driven performer and that's why he maximises his potential. That's what you want to find out in these interviews - how driven they are.

Vez linked to the Dogs. Hope we play real hard ball with them the same way they did to us regarding Bazza.

SYDNEY forward Patrick Veszpremi is the latest name linked to the Western Bulldogs as the club sets its sights on several ready-made recruits.

                          Brabazon at the draft 'combine'

Draft combine snippets ? day two - AFL.com.au

Brabazon, 23, finished fifth in both the 20-metre sprint (2.84 seconds) and the agility test (8.04).
I don't recall him being that fast. That sprint time beats both Jetta and Rohan's times from last year.

ugg, Braba was fast, no doubt about it, its just his disposal was first class crap. Very lightly built. Hope like hell he does well, and finds a proper spot, because he had a joyful face and obviously loved playing.

Logical players to negotiate around would seem Andrejs Everitt and Dylan Addison. Both are fringe players at the Bulldogs, named emergencies in almost 1/2 the games this year. Addison a NSW boy orginally etc.
Would think that we may have to include a lower round draft pick as well. Whilst I like Vesz those Bulldogs players would probably have to be rated above him, if only on number of games played. With The Bulldogs probably having to use their higher draft picks for father-son players (Wallis and Liberatore) they may be interested in our 3rd round pick which will be slightly higher than theirs

Overall I'd rather we kept Vesz and that he realises his potential....however the reality is that sometimes you need to trade and hopefully create a win/win for all concerned

At the end of the day Vez is under contract so we hold all the chips if the dogs want him they will have to give up someone we need. Hopefully he stays because if he gets his body right his upside is huge in my opinion.
