I wondered what the deal was for this next period of 'delisted player' free agency, in terms of players refusing to sign a new contract and therefore forcing their club to ultimately delist them. It is explained though at the chart at the bottom of the page at: http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsartic...3/default.aspx.

So you're not a free agent for those purposes if you:

    - initially retire
    - reject offer from current club
    - request removal from club list

I assume the AFL would say in the Tippett case that Adelaide did originally offer him a contract, which he rejected.

You'd like to try and argue that they are no longer offering him one, so technically at this point in time he's not rejecting their offer. And Tippett use the pressure of potential legal action as a bargaining tool for Adelaide to 'voluntarily' delist him rather than Tippett himself requesting that.

But you'd think the chances of the AFL letting it happen that way would be zero given all the crap that has gone on.

So PSD it will probably be - perhaps the best result given at least by then we'll know what sanctions etc will occur. Unless Tippett relaxes his stance on only wanting to go to the Swans, I can't see anyone else taking him, despite all the reports that will link him with GWS, GC, Brisbane etc.

Glad the club made a statement, think we needed/deserved a heads up on what happens from here.

The kid can certainly play - let's hope he's worth all this nonsense.

The reality is, as much as they have been fantastic up until this point, nobody is immune to mistakes. There are a few people who not without reason, have serious doubts about the type of bloke Tippett is and feel he can potentially have a negative impact on our club with all the baggage he will be bringing across ( and the salary he will be commanding) . No one knows for sure, but you can't blame people for feeling a little nervous about this. I'm somewhere in between I guess, but this last week hasnt filled me with joy at the thought of having the bloke ( and the associated baggage) in a swans jumper next year.

Yes to both of the above.
I find it quite bazaar that there is still people on here that don't have complete and utter faith in the powers that be in our club.

I have no idea what baggage if any Tippett would bring and no one on the outside can possibly say they do. I trust implicitly those people who run this club and if they want Tippett knowing what they do then that's fine by me. Remember also our culture is so strong that if you don't buy into it you'll be out the door pretty quickly and because of it's strength it would take more than 1 recalcitrant player to hurt it.

If he is not de-listed by Adelaide it will absolutely be all about the money (and the length of contract) that he stipulates as his contract terms when entering the PSD - other than that he will have no choice where he goes - especially since we have the last pick in the draft. Any team that can meet these contract terms will be able to pick him.

Lockett, Hall, Davis had all played well below their capabilities and had some "baggage" when they arrived. If he does not buy into "our way" he will play in the two's until he does. That, i guess, is our safety net. If this guy is not made of the right stuff his career will surely be over. Now can we please start another thread??????????????

I dont think Lockett played below his ability before he came to us.

No but the year before he came to the Swans he missed a lot of games after Peter Caven visciously headbutted his elbow.
