As a standalone point, ignore delistings for this . Within 12 months, for us to have the 2 best free agents come to our club. One the biggest name in football marketing wise. Alongside a possible pick 2, and the blossoming of our prior selections. All on the back of a premiership and a prelim birth that we achieved with so much fire power missing over a season (worst season of injuries for 14 years) is impressive. Unbelievable even. You can understand the fear and questions from other clubs. A bit of luck next year and we could be poetry out there with a dash of our existing mongrel, compared to our darker grind out a win days.
Ugly ducklings my arse! Time to be hated, feared and admired more than ever before.

Ok thats out of my system. Back to reality.
Ugg I think you are correct for that to occur. What are we using pick 2 for? If it's not a specific targeted player, I'm not sure the loss of depth will be worth it in our current window (considering 2 of those 3 are young).Comment

I don't know, just speculating in the spirit of this thread.Comment

Melbourne are looking for a core of midfielders. They believe (rightly in my view) that their forward line of dawes, clark, hogan is strong enough. They believe that their backline of garland, frawley etc are capable. They believe that their onball less silvia and maloney from the last two seasons and scully before that as well as the failure of morton and trengove to really come on is the problem area. Have we got some seriously good midfielders they could build a team around. If so then a trade might occur. Jesse and Everitt are not it. So if you want to lose parker, hanners, jack, jpk etc then a trade might occur.
I personally cant see us trading one of our midfielders. if our best midfield comes together including jetta and rohan as wingers and with buddy as a roaming wingman/half forward flanker with tippett as the get out kick I just dont know who is even tradeable from it.Comment

So is there anything that would tempt us to upgrade draft picks? Or, are we done for horse trading season?Comment

Melbourne offer Freo pick 2 and pick 24 (allowing for free agent compensation picks) for Nat Fyffe or David Mundy. (Roosey in particular loves both these guys).
Nat Fyffe or David Mundy say they dont want to be traded to a club not in a premiership window.
Sydney hears talk of this and trades to try and get pick 2.
Roosey, Rossy Lyon and Horse do speak with one another you know.
hhhmmm, now just an example of talk that could be happening behind the scenes...just an example remember!

- Daniel Hananbery (Pick 2 and Max Gawn)
- Josh Kennedy (Pick 2 and Max Gawn)
- Kiran Jack (Pick 2 and Max Gawn)
- Jarod Mcveigh (Pick 2)
- Luke Parker (Pick 2)
- Nick Smith and a second round pick (Pick 2)
- Ben Mglynn, Craig Bird and our existing 1st round (pick 2)
- Lewis Jetta and Ben Mglynn (pick 2)
- Garry Rohan, Ben Mglynn and our existing 1st round pick (pick 2)
I can't see any business from Melbourne apart from the above players, but the combination may change!
As you can see it would be a lot to lose to get pick 2 but may free up some salary cap room!Comment

News.com.au reports we have agreed on a late 2nd round or early third round for Jesse with Collingwood. They are considering TA sounds like Jesses deal is doneYou don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby ZieglerComment

Has anyone even considered who we would want to draft at pick 2? James Aish and Josh Kelly seem to be the leading candidates. Would anyone really want to trade an AA midfielder for an unproven draft pick, regardless of his prospects of being a quality AFL player at 18 years of age? I can't understand this fascination with pick 2.Comment

The only players that we have that would satisfy Melbourne's pick 2 is the following:
- Daniel Hananbery (Pick 2 and Max Gawn)
- Josh Kennedy (Pick 2 and Max Gawn)
- Kiran Jack (Pick 2 and Max Gawn)
- Jarod Mcveigh (Pick 2)
- Luke Parker (Pick 2)
- Nick Smith and a second round pick (Pick 2)
- Ben Mglynn, Craig Bird and our existing 1st round (pick 2)
- Lewis Jetta and Ben Mglynn (pick 2)
- Garry Rohan, Ben Mglynn and our existing 1st round pick (pick 2)

would be decent business IMO. Know Jetta was injured this year but he goes missing too often for my liking. Plus he'll be gone after Goodesy retires anyway. Both would free up valuable salary cap dollars to add to our kitty when resigning players next year...
Two top 20 draft picks would be awesome.Comment

Gary Rohan + McGlynn + Pick 14 for pick 2?????????????? Are you freaking nuts????? Melbourne would trade pick 2 for Gary Rohan in a heartbeat!!!!! He was taken at pick 6 with potential....and has now PROVEN his potential which makes him worth MORE than pick #6. Think about it.
BTW for the Swans to even entertain ANY discussions of pick 3 they must have a player they REALLY want.....Aish or Scharenberg presumably because we wouldn't give up a top 15 player (which you would have to to get pick 2) unless it was for someone ready to go who could add something to the Swans midfield that we are lacking....that thing is class/polish like a Burgoyne or Dal Santo or Pendlebury....or genius like Ablett or Judd or O'Meara.
So if they reckon that Aish is that player - then it wouldn't be a shock to trade Smith OR Bird for him.....not sayin' they SHOULD, mind you.
And how can a 25 year old CHF who will slot straight into the hardest position on the ground in a premiership window team POSSIBLY be only worth pick 35????????????????????????????????????
Hampson went for 28 and he can't even get a game at Carlton. I'll offer them picks 10 and 28 for Jesse and 14....EAT THAT!"I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment

As for Jesse, perhaps Jesse and our second rounder for Collingwood's pick 10 or 11 (Thomas compo pick). But would settle for 28, which is likely to be 31 after compo picks. Collingwood definitely would be getting the better of the deal.Comment

Given we couldn't give the bloke away last year, any currency we can get is good. Second scenario seems close to the money. Reckon we will be very active in the top end of this years draftComment
