Would we be a better team with Dawson or Moore?

I would say Finals time Moore's role for the team is Mooooooooooreeeee important despite me loving the way Dawso plays footy

I love the concept of Darcy Moore.

But while he's got Sam Reid covered for durability, it's only just.

Did I really say that? I wonder what I was thinking. Maybe you should start recording our conversations; stuff like that would go well in the Audio Room of the Ludwig Museum.

Darcy Moore could well be gettable as a free agent next year. Still only 26 next year. With McCartin, Logan would provide a core spine for next 5 years.
It makes sense to find ourselves in a position with a bit of cash on hand; something we haven't seen for a while. Things change quickly in a young developing team. Let's see how things look with our list next year, and a bit of cash to spend in our pockets. It doesn't have to be Darcy Moore. There are always players out there ready to move for a better deal, as we are all too aware.

With Dawson and Hewett off the payroll and Buddy's contract ending next year, we should at least be in a position to hold on to the players we already have on our list, which would be a nice change.

        On a Dawson trade strategy:

We aren't obliged to go out and do a deal with Adelaide for Dawson, just because Dawson has chosen them. We could negotiate a deal with Port, if Port agrees, and come up with a trade for Dawson that suits both us and Port, but of course, without the agreement of Dawson himself. So then there is a live deal done that gets the player to his city of choice, just waiting to be accepted. That puts the onus on Dawson to reject the deal for reasons that most likely involve the contract not being to his liking compared to Adelaide's offer. If the deal looks fair to the public, the pressure will be on the Dawson camp to come to a fair arrangement if he wants to get to the Crows.

I don't think the PSD is a viable threat as I doubt North or GC would take part, even if they did have the money. I mentioned this before, but it would be a good deal for one of those clubs even if Dawson wants out next year. They just trade him out to an Adelaide club and get a 1st round draft pick. Not bad for a club just taking advantage of a situation that they had no original part of. But again, clubs don't like being part of deals when a player doesn't want to come to their club. It doesn't look good. It's a lot easier when the player wants to move back to Victoria, because then there can be a real competition for the player and the PSD can be a viable threat.

This is all sound, and mainly because player managers have an important role to play in getting clubs to move on trades.

The main reason to at least keep the Port or PSD option alive is not because it's likely, but it's important for them to think it's at least an outside chance and ensure they feel pressure to go squeeze Adelaide a little harder on our behalf.

P.S: Of our number 34s, Troy Luff = games / goals / grand finals / person > Jordan Dawson.

For those interested in more details about Jordan Dawson than can be found anywhere else on the web, go to his agent's website, TLA:

            Jordan Dawson – TLA

Lots of pics and a whole history of his life.

On a personal note, when Mrs L heard about Dawson's request to go home to Adelaide, she asked if a player can really use the 'go home factor' to get back to their family. I, of course, said it couldn't be done. But unbeknownst to me, Mrs L contacted TLA management, and now I'm back in Chiang Mai, living next door to my brother in law. To make things worse, TLA gets 10% of my pension paid directly to them. If I even remotely suspected that Mrs L was that clever, I would have never married her.

A player like Darcy enables so much flexibility with our game plans and would enable our backline to be even more attacking !!!
Darcy Moore would be number 1 on my 'dream recruit' list.

Very interesting! These agents have definitely done a much better job than our Club (and AFL) in providing us with lots more information of the players. Perhaps the Players Profile Pages on the Club Web site should have a link to every player's agent page.

There are a number of other Swannies under the same management. They include: Rowbottom, COR, Gould, McLean, Cunningham, Warner, O'Connor and McInerney. You're right about the stark comparison with the player profiles on our webpage.

The player I think we should pursue next year is Aaron Naughton. Post Buddy, we need a top forward who can also help improve our presence in the Sydney market and he would be ideal. What would it take to get him? Could we fit him in our cap? Darcy Moore is a fantastic player but wouldn’t have the same excitement factor, though I’d be more than happy to have him.

Looking forward to the draft there are a couple of players around our range (assuming we also get Adelaide's 2nd rounder in a Dawson deal) that I would be happy for us to select.

Both are South Australians and both are indigenous. First one is Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera and the second one is Blayne O'Loughlin.

Both these boys play different positions with Wanganeen-Milera a wing/midfield prospect and O'Loughlin plays as a small rebound defender.

Both these players have brilliant foot skills and would fit in well with our new game plan of chopping teams up with precise kicking.

Obviously there is the go home factor with drafting these young boys from interstate and it seems to be magnified a little more when selecting indigenous players from interstate which is why I would like to see us take both boys. They are probably close friends as they have come up together in the same system and we also have another advantage with O'Loughlin being the nephew of Micky O so he'll have great family support in Sydney!

We have a pretty strong list with good young players so this draft could be really important to add some finishing touches to a future premiership assault! I think adding some real X factor and class that sometimes only these indigenous boys possess will really complement some of the blue collar workers we have spread throughout our side!

Melbourne targeted young Pickett with a high draft pick to add some of that to their side and he's been a brilliant selection! I feel it's our turn to do the same and push ourselves to the next level!

Unfortunately we'll never get him. 1, he's unlikely to leave the Bulldogs, and 2, if he actually did it would almost certainly be to go back home to W.A.

He would definitely be a fine pick up though if we could pull off a miracle! Lol

I know what you mean troyjones, but we can dream! Very difficult to prise him from the Fairypups, I agree so we would have to throw the bank at him and that would also take care of the go home factor!

Who else would you suggest? We will need 1 marquee signing, I think.

They will both be tied to SA clubs as Next Generation players. O'Loughlin is tied to the Crows. Not sure about Wanganeed-Milera (and haven't gone to look it up). That means that any club that wants to be sure to get them would have to draft them in the first 19 picks (or is it 20 picks?). After that, their "host" club has the right to match a bid. Of course, there's a chance that a bid wouldn't be matched if it were early in the second round.

I watched bits and pieces of this afternoon's U19 curtain raiser game, and BOL looked pretty good. I see he was awarded BOG honours for SA for the game. The position he played today (assuming that's his preferred or most natural position) isn't one where we've got anything coming through the squad at the moment, so he would fill a needs gap more than a vanilla midfielder. I guess it depends on whether there are any taller prospects around that same spot in the draft who fill a more important list hole.
