I think that is reasonably accurate. It was a terrible piece of list management for the following reasons:
- Dempster has been an automatic selection for the Saints who have had a superior 22 to ours
- He is a versatile player who suited our team and style of play
- He didn't bother shopping him around to other clubs to see whether he had any trade value
- He didn't bother asking the Saints for their 1st round pick instead of their 2ndComment

However, I think Sean was the Bevo of an earlier age - but without the upside. He's done well at the Saints but there were few indications that he would have if he'd continued at the Swans. He might have well had a Luke Ablett-like decline and be retired by now, instead of playing in his third Grand Final in two years.I think that is reasonably accurate. He was/is never going to be a topline player but there seems to be a bit of revision of history by some fans to defend the trade (e.g. Schneider had stagnated, Dempster was no good). Dempster had a 22 possession, 11 mark game against West Coast in 2007 and got dropped the following week. His output that year when he got a game was comparable to his time at the Saints. However, I think Sean was the Bevo of an earlier age - but without the upside. Ablett barely had a 22 possesion game in his whole careerComment

When he was traded, Roos was quoted as saying:He was/is never going to be a topline player but there seems to be a bit of revision of history by some fans to defend the trade (e.g. Schneider had stagnated, Dempster was no good). Dempster, according to Roos "would come after Kennelly,Malceski and Mattner and probably wouldn't get a game"
Which of these should have gone instead?Comment

I've already stated that Crouch, Mathews and Ablett should have been on the chopping block before Dempster. Rubbish quote from Roos to justify the trade, Dempster can play a lock down role as evidenced on Saturday, do you think either of those 3 could have done that job on Didak??Comment

The bolded statement is just wrong. 22 games over the past two seasons does not indicate an automatic selection.I think that is reasonably accurate. It was a terrible piece of list management for the following reasons:

Did you ever see Crouch play? I'd say Aker was a more wily player than Didak, as the most obvious example.I've already stated that Crouch, Mathews and Ablett should have been on the chopping block before Dempster. A search of RWO will reveal that in his final year at the Swans Dempster didn't reach a pass mark among posters.
IN the giant chess game of coaching I would have taken Shaw over Dempster, too.Comment

In 12 months, quite a few Swans players could be playing in their third GF for the club - and that would be as many as S&D have for the Saints. Of course, S&D would be in their 5th for the Saints if it's a drawn Saints-Swans GF next year. Not sure my nerves would be up to it, though. Or Jolly could be lining up for his 6th GF.
Hey, the ramifications from two GFs a year are fun.Comment

The following article says Vez, Currie, Barlow and MOD all on the trade table. Won't be getting any high profile players with the lot on offer.
