Apparently Wicks has re-signed on a one year deal, according to Cal Twomey. Cool.

The number of senior games he played this year (and his contribution in many of them) warrants another year on the list. But you get the feeling he's one of those players who'll always be on the edge of being delisted, and have to survive on short term contracts. Unless he makes a significant shift up the development curve.Comment

Yes, it is much better than the headline suggests. Rare to read an in-depth and fair-minded article on the Swans ("indefensibly, put an unjustifiable trade ban on the club" for example).
Can Sydney trade their way to a premiership again?

Agree Liz
There seems to be a few players in every squad that play a bit of Snrs but curiously are never far away from being listed or simply offered a fairly budget contract.
Wicks appears to be one of this in our squad. Lots of effort but if he could get up closer to 30 goals per season while playing his role on the tough to handle small forwards…….then he will go next level.
Schulz did that last two seasons at Freeo"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Trust me, half the kids who come to us these days are young and rambunctious and a bit rat baggery. We've got another small forward on our list who made a career out of it! And how many 19yos kicked 40 goals in a season? Ginnivan can play and watch him - he has very natural footy instincts.
I'd do it for a pick in the 30s and AFL average salary. Alas, it looks like the Hawks have it covered.
Happy to be proven wrong.....but it will probably be with Hawthorn. Phew!
I'd rather see what Kostanty can do frankly.....and with Paps and Wicks, I think we've got the small forward roles covered.Last edited by stevoswan; 17 October 2023, 08:15 PM.Comment

If this is true, what a lucky bloke at such a young age. He knows what he is doing. Having a good time but must make sure he understands where the bread is coming from to be involved in race horse ownership. It's not cheap. Not so sure he wouldn't get a side gig in Sydney. Tommy Papley is on the SEN Racetrack channel and maybe destined to be involved in the industry after he retires. John Jenkins works for a corporate bookie and is a form analyst on SEN and he is darn good at it.Comment

Jenkins and Phil Davis are very good, though the Beveridge-Twomey combo is the best as they don’t rabbit on with speculative or sensationalist nonsense, and actually study the draft talent.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

By the way, can someone explain to me how Port are allowed to have drafted out of the first round last year, effectively traded right out of the draft this year, and got bugger all left next year under the rules designed to prevent clubs from shorting away their future.
I don’t mind some of what Port has done in building an elite midfield, but not sure the rest of their list is so red hot post draft period that they’re not taking a giant risk on their medium and long term future.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

Appears Hawthorn have their first pick at 73. I thought clubs had to go into the draft with 3 picks, and then do deals on the night that might result in lesser picks.Comment

Hawthorn would have picks in the fifth round, sixth round and so on. It's not how many picks in the first five rounds that matter, but how many picks are used."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Wow weeeee
Lucky we pulled the trigger to trade significantly
Port
Pies
Brisbane
Melbourne
Essendon
Saints
Carlton

So Port only had one pick for the draft available?
How does that work?
PORT ADELAIDE
Who left: Xavier Duursma (trade, Essendon)
Who arrived: Ivan Soldo (trade, Richmond), Jordon Sweet (trade, Western Bulldogs), Esava Ratugolea (trade, Geelong), Brandon Zerk-Thatcher (trade, Essendon)
Draft picks owned: 73"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Anyone interested in JJ (James Jordon) the following games might be worth watching.
29 disps (23 kicks 6 hballs), 8 marks, 3 tackles and a goal in Rd 13 26-pt loss to Collingwood at the MCG (13 Jun 2022) played more outside it appears
Also I tried to find a couple games where he had higher tackle counts ie a couple games where he may have played more inside than outside
2022 round 16 vs Adelaide JJ had 6 tackles and also round 7 vs Hawks 6 tackles
2023 round 17 vs Saints JJ had 4 tackles
2023 round 3 vs is he had 21 disposals and would be worth watching as it is against the Bloods"be tough, only when it gets tough"
