Adam Goodes - 300 Games
By Alison Zell Adam Goodes is a dual Brownlow medallist, three-time all-Australian, two time Bob Skilton medallist, Sydney Swans co-captain, AFL Rising Star Award winner and indigenous team of the century player. But this week North Melbourne coach Brad Scott labelled Goodes an underrated player. And he may just have a point. In 299 games, football followers have been dazzled by Goodes? almost unmatchable speed, versatility and astonishing class. It has been on display in many of his ...

Smooch and Hanners reach 50 games
One arrived via the rookie list and one burst on to the scene at 18; but both Nick Smith and Dan Hannebery will play their 50th games at the SCG against Brisbane tomorrow. It is a tale of two very different avenues to the AFL but two equally courageous and talented footballers whose importance to the Swans team of today and the bright future of the club cannot be underestimated. While Hannebery?s 2010 Rising Star Award has (deservedly) earned Hannebery high public recognition for the teen?s explosive...

10 Questions on Jude Bolton
We asked 10 questions to the partners of some the players.
These are the answers supplied, Jude's lovely wife, Lynette.
We hope you enjoy finding out a little about the players from a different perspective.
1. Where did you meet?
We met out in the city one night when we were both independently out with friends.
2. Did you know anything about AFL? The Sydney Swans? Absolutely nothing! Growing up in Sydney I was a fan of Rugby Le... -

Swans Preview - Adelaide (July 2, 2011)
Written by akitchener Once upon a time, going down to play the Adelaide Crows at AAMI Stadium was as daunting a prospect for Swans fans as, say, facing off with Collingwood. The Crows were a real bogey team, even when the Swans were beating just about everyone else. I?ve lost track of how many frustrating Sydney vs. Adelaide games I?ve sat through in my life. It used to be rough up here, but an away game was enough to make you want to pull your hair out. For whatever reason, they could never... -

Swans v Collingwood Match Report
Sydney Swans vs. Collingwood Magpies Match Report
7.10pm June 25, ANZ Stadium
Now I?m probably one of the more optimistic Swans supporters and tip the Swans every week but even I didn?t have the greatest hopes for the Swans against Collingwood. The Swans went into this match with three changes to the team that was thrashed by Carlton ? Bevan, White and Everitt recalled for Mumford (suspension), Jetta (dropped) and Johnson (injury). The Pies got Swan back, fresh from his Arizona... -

Swans match report v Carlton
Swans v Carlton I was overseas during the early part of the season and had watched the swans play Carlton at the scg via the afl website. that's an interesting experience as you get a bit of a delay, you know ball kicked by number 5 to number 3 to number 4 who goals. this meant I approached the swans Carlton game without the preconceptions of those who had watched that game. However I have managed most of the subsequent games and must confess to being pretty apprehensive as I boarded the train ... -

Round 11: Sydney Swans Reserves v Queanbeyan Tigers
The rain fell intermittently throughout the whole game - it never got too heavy but the winds at times caused havoc with some of the kicks holding up or blowing over the onrushing pack. The Tigers surprisingly led by 1 point at quarter time, but all their goals were due to mistakes from our players - 2 turnovers in defence and 1 mix up between the defenders not handling a long ball well. The Swans finally established a solid lead to build upon their domination of the football in the 2nd qua... -

Round 11, 2011 ? Yo Gabba Gabba!
Well last week was yet another heart-stopper from the Swans and after well and truly handing in their Get Out Of Jail Free card against North, Swans fans were hoping for a less stressful evening this week. Ominously for Sydney though, Brisbane had shown signs of life in the last two weeks, with successive wins following the return of Jonathon Brown, a player who has burned us before. The selection panel, in a move no doubt designed to both simultaneously delight and vex RWO members, picked fan... -

by joemoore12Not since 1200 of the South Melbourne faithful made the return train journey to Geelong for the first match of the 1909 football season, have Swans supporters held such a sense of anticipation for the year ahead. Familiar faces have moved on to greener pastures, and some to opposition clubs. A fresh-faced brigade of youngsters are bracing to make their mark, and the club has never before in its proud history, enjoyed the position of off-field strength that it now holds. On Saturday, the Sydney Swans...

Having spent three years living in Dublin, I?m well versed in the joys of ?having the craic.? It?s how my friends from the Emerald Isle describe a good time. Let the good times roll?
Pre-game:Once completing my penultimate teaching degree on Friday, the Swanette and I boarded a most familiar flight from Hobart to Melbourne. It just makes sense to do so ? my brother lives there, my S...-

by joemoore12Old Mates & Old Foes ?Mateship? is a concept that can be traced back to early colonial times. The harsh environment in which convicts and new settlers found themselves meant that men and women closely relied on each other for all sorts of help. In Australia, a ?mate? is more than just a friend. It?s a term that implies a sense of shared experience, mutual respect and unconditional assistance. I?ve been mates with Shep since we were pre-teens, growing up together on the sporting fields of ...

by joemoore12What a harrowing week. What a shockingly shameful week. For the past six days, distorting truths has become as much a sport as football is. For the past six days, a great Australian has been shown such a lack of respect and common decency, that I?ve been ashamed of my fellow Australian. Today, the Sydney Swans will play the Adelaide Crows at the SCG. Adam Goodes will not be playing. We all know the reasons why. It saddens me, and many others, that a man who shows exemplary respect and understandi...

by joemoore12For the past four years, I have attempted to juggle full-time study with full-time employment. This has resulted in a full-time headache. However, the end is nigh, and it is now more than ever, that I appreciate the unquestionable need to seek the support of old friends. This week has meant exams. Exams mean study, and study means no footy until the weekend. Not ideal. Not at all. It?s been a long week. But, like an old and trusted friend, the Sydney Swans wait for me at the end of a week...

by joemoore12May 29, 2015. The Bloods have been afforded the privileged honour of kicking-off this year?s Indigenous Round. This proud club has a rich history of highly-skilled, hard-working and much-loved Indigenous heroes. From Elkin Riley of the 1950?s, to Abiana Davis who was drafted late last year, the Red & White faithful have adored and admired our Indigenous footballers. As we take on the Blues, thoughts of current and former favourites take hold. Tonight is a celebration. Helping to celebrate the contrib...
