Sydney Swans Reserves v East Coast Eagles 19th March
A big win, a solid performance but I think the coaches will be more than a little disappointed that the Eagles could not replicate their performance from the corresponding match last year. The Swans dominated possession and field position, starting from the utter dominance of the ruck division, feeding both our inside and outside midfielders who gave good clean ball to a very potent (and tall) forward line. The Eagles struggled to get the ball out of the their own half for much fo the game.... -

A guide to the NAB Cup/Match Preview
A GUIDE TO THE NAB CUP
THE RULES
What you need to know?
The NAB Cup is an intriguing concept ? particularly this year ? as trial rules are added to a new three-team round robin opening round.
Each set of three teams will play each other once, at the same venue, on the same night, in 20 minute halves. Half time is eight minutes with 20 minutes between each match.
Each team has named 29 players (GC named 28 ? a mystery!)... -

2011- 30th season in Sydney
The 2011 Season will mark the 30th season of the Swans as a Sydney club. And what a journey it has been. While Australian Rules Football had been played in Sydney for decades, the term "minority sport" would have been an understatement, even compared to some other sports. To most Sydneysiders, it was a foreign game, although no doubt quite a few had at least some awareness of it. The code was certainly stronger in Brisbane and Canberra than it had been in Sydney, and certainly stronger in country ... -

Sydney vs Carlton - Elimination Final
When I put my hand up to write this week's match report, it was with the knowledge that it could turn out to be a eulogy to the football coaching and playing careers of Roos and Kirk. On the other hand, there was a good chance it would turn out to be a celebration of yet another pounding of the Blues on home turf. There were times during Sunday's game where I had started to write both versions in my head. In the end the game turned out to be neither of these, but rather an addition to the now ... -

ROUND 21: Swans magic, and midfield, puts the Dogs away
The Swans routinely fall short in milestone games, but their performance at the SCG on Saturday night showed not even the most malevolent spirit could overcome Kirk?s karma. They footy gods answered all of the expectations of the Swans faithful ? and then some ? as Sydney despatched the self-declared premiership contender by 44 points, ending a run of five losses against the Dogs and making a down payment on a home final. The Swans took control of the game halfway through the first quart... -

ROUND 19 SYDNEY SWANS VS HAWTHORN HAWKS MATCH REPORT
Sydney Swans 5.4 10.10 13.12 19.15 (129)
Hawthorn Hawks 1.1 3.5 9.6 13.7 (85)
Super Swans, frantic fans and Jetta?s jubilation make this victory one to savour.
A sunny Saturday afternoon at the SCG and the rowdy crowd were anticipating big things from their Swans who had suffered two of their worst defeats in recent history, losing the previous two weeks by a combined margin of 126 points. The Hawks were coming off a narrow loss to... -

Swans soar once more as Goodes comes up with the goods.
It started at 9.50 that morning. The reserves were strutting their stuff, big Jesse White, who in the seniors had been unable to buy a mark, was plucking the ball from the air as if his hands were lined with velcro. He finished with 8 goals in a dominant display up forward. The reserves had a mammoth win in a dominant display all over the ground. It was the start of a very good day for those wearing red and white. But that was the reserves, and their opposition was the lowly Tuggeranong Hawks. The ... -

ROUND 12 PORT ADELAIDE VS SYDNEY SWANS MATCH REPORT
Port Adelaide 4.0 6.2 8.5 8.7 (55)
Sydney Swans 3.2 10.4 11.6 14.9 (93)
After securing a tight win against Essendon on the back of four straight losses, the Swans went into this game needing a win to go into the mid-season break in positive figures on the win-loss scale. Port Adelaide had been faring worse, if possible, and were coming off five straight losses with both teams perched precariously around the bottom of the eight. This was a true eight-point game with finals in sight... -

Sydney vs Essendon - Round 11
"A game the Swans had to win to keep their season alive." "A tightly fought contest that went down to the wire." "A match were the "old blokes" finally stood up." All are true but a bit passe. Jude's record for contested possessions has already been gushed over, McVeigh's clearances delighted in. The weather remarked upon, the umpiring ruminated upon. What else is there to say about this game? I thought I would approach this match report a little differently, and write about a few of my favourite... -

by joemoore12Not since 1200 of the South Melbourne faithful made the return train journey to Geelong for the first match of the 1909 football season, have Swans supporters held such a sense of anticipation for the year ahead. Familiar faces have moved on to greener pastures, and some to opposition clubs. A fresh-faced brigade of youngsters are bracing to make their mark, and the club has never before in its proud history, enjoyed the position of off-field strength that it now holds. On Saturday, the Sydney Swans...

by joemoore12Beidh ceol, caint agus craic againn? We?ll have music, chat and craic.
Having spent three years living in Dublin, I?m well versed in the joys of ?having the craic.? It?s how my friends from the Emerald Isle describe a good time. Let the good times roll?
Pre-game:Once completing my penultimate teaching degree on Friday, the Swanette and I boarded a most familiar flight from Hobart to Melbourne. It just makes sense to do so ? my brother lives there, my S...-

by joemoore12Old Mates & Old Foes ?Mateship? is a concept that can be traced back to early colonial times. The harsh environment in which convicts and new settlers found themselves meant that men and women closely relied on each other for all sorts of help. In Australia, a ?mate? is more than just a friend. It?s a term that implies a sense of shared experience, mutual respect and unconditional assistance. I?ve been mates with Shep since we were pre-teens, growing up together on the sporting fields of ...

by joemoore12What a harrowing week. What a shockingly shameful week. For the past six days, distorting truths has become as much a sport as football is. For the past six days, a great Australian has been shown such a lack of respect and common decency, that I?ve been ashamed of my fellow Australian. Today, the Sydney Swans will play the Adelaide Crows at the SCG. Adam Goodes will not be playing. We all know the reasons why. It saddens me, and many others, that a man who shows exemplary respect and understandi...

by joemoore12For the past four years, I have attempted to juggle full-time study with full-time employment. This has resulted in a full-time headache. However, the end is nigh, and it is now more than ever, that I appreciate the unquestionable need to seek the support of old friends. This week has meant exams. Exams mean study, and study means no footy until the weekend. Not ideal. Not at all. It?s been a long week. But, like an old and trusted friend, the Sydney Swans wait for me at the end of a week...

by joemoore12May 29, 2015. The Bloods have been afforded the privileged honour of kicking-off this year?s Indigenous Round. This proud club has a rich history of highly-skilled, hard-working and much-loved Indigenous heroes. From Elkin Riley of the 1950?s, to Abiana Davis who was drafted late last year, the Red & White faithful have adored and admired our Indigenous footballers. As we take on the Blues, thoughts of current and former favourites take hold. Tonight is a celebration. Helping to celebrate the contrib...
