  • Round 10, 2011 - A win is a win!

    Round 10, 2011 - A win is a win!

Sort of forgot about the report until Sunday morning. I usually take a note pad and get my PA to take notes for me. However, my PA is doing VCE, and chose not to come. Which was a good thing for all around us, as she is chocked up with cold at the moment. Many thanks to the people who chose to spend the afternoon with me. It made for some light entertainment from a rather frustrating and stressful game. The game: We started bad, North could not capitalise on it, missing some relatively easy s...

Swans v Hawks Round 9 Match Report: Reality Bites

    Reality Bites

It?s never easy revving up the motivation levels required to pen a match report after a loss, especially one as emphatic as Sunday?s loss. I also empathise with prospective readers the difficulty experienced in having to re-live the horrors of a thrashing - my natural preference being to look forward to the upcoming match and chalking up the abject performance to just a bad day.

However to do so would be incredibly short-sighted as in truth,...

    Swans Short Circuit the Power

Swans Short Circuit the Power It's a daunting task to write up a report after the stellar efforts of our previous report writers but here goes. On a night so cold at the SCG I swear I saw penguins huddling around a heater , the Swans got the job done to the tune of 62 points. While the margin (our biggest in 3 years) was indeed impressive the manner in which it was achieved was less so. The first half saw some of the worst football the Swans have produced this year and lacked the intensity ...

Sydney vs Carlton - Rnd 6 2011 Match Preview

A confession to start. I was meant to have contributed a match report for the round 4 Geelong game. So I pondered for more than a week waiting for inspiration to strike so that I could write something other than ?Cats still better than Swans?, or ?Swans tough and gallant but ultimately just a touch short in class?, or even ?Short, follicly challenged Cat dismantles Swans ? again?. Alas, nothing inspirational ever arrived and so nor did the match report. Instead I turned my attention to this...

Round 3: Sydney Swans Reserves v Belconnen Magpies

Tired, cranky but a busy day tomorrow so I'll jot down a quick summary and a few notes of the players involved. Belconnen struggled to clear their defensive zone for most of the day, with most of their forays into their attacking half, hopeful half-blind kicks where the Swans' defence would tidy up with little trouble. While they didn't lose the first quarter this week, they were still quite profligate going inside 50 and only had 4 goals on the board at quarter time. The rain was quite heavy...

  • Horse gets across the line for maiden victory : Sydney v Essendon, Round 2 2011

The second round clash between the Swans and Bombers was all about the new boys going head to head. The Golden Boy vs The Longtime Apprentice. James Hird had thus far enjoyed a dream start to his senior AFL coaching career, guiding his Bombers side to a series of remarkable wins (the loss to the rampant Collingwood in the NAB Cup Final notwithstanding). In contrast, Sydney's John Longmire went about his business in quieter fashion - a mixed fare in the opening round of the NAB Cup, followed by...

  • Sydney Swans Reserves v GWS Giants

Sydney Swans Reserves v GWS Giants

GWS did start very strong and while the Swans missed their shots, I thought the Giants were good value for their 4 goals. They moved the ball well through the midfield and capitalised on some sloppy Swans defence. The Swans on the other hand were haphazard by foot going into forward line, preferring to bomb long into the tall timber down there rather than spot up open players. Playfair must have reiterated to the players to stick to their structures during the break as from then on it was all ...

  • Hope Springs Eternal

    Hope Springs Eternal

** Pictures by ScottH It?s been a terrible off-season. The Socceroos lost in extra-time; the Victory were anything but; and Punter and his pals sank without trace. Never mind: a new AFL season and hope springs eternal. I drove up to town from Gippsland with my daughter - it took a couple of hours, so I had plenty of time to reminisce - plenty of memories from past Demons? confrontations. Schwartz and Dunkley going head to head, more intent on whacking each other than winning the ball. Dermo...

  • Ch Ch Changes: Sydney Swans 2016 Season Preview
    by joemoore12
Not since 1200 of the South Melbourne faithful made the return train journey to Geelong for the first match of the 1909 football season, have Swans supporters held such a sense of anticipation for the year ahead. Familiar faces have moved on to greener pastures, and some to opposition clubs. A fresh-faced brigade of youngsters are bracing to make their mark, and the club has never before in its proud history, enjoyed the position of off-field strength that it now holds. On Saturday, the Sydney Swans...

Beidh ceol, caint agus craic againn
? We?ll have music, chat and craic.

Having spent three years living in Dublin, I?m well versed in the joys of ?having the craic.? It?s how my friends from the Emerald Isle describe a good time. Let the good times roll?

    Pre-game:
Once completing my penultimate teaching degree on Friday, the Swanette and I boarded a most familiar flight from Hobart to Melbourne. It just makes sense to do so ? my brother lives there, my S...

  • Round 20 - Sydney v Collingwood: Old Mates & Old Foes
    by joemoore12
Old Mates & Old Foes ?Mateship? is a concept that can be traced back to early colonial times. The harsh environment in which convicts and new settlers found themselves meant that men and women closely relied on each other for all sorts of help. In Australia, a ?mate? is more than just a friend. It?s a term that implies a sense of shared experience, mutual respect and unconditional assistance. I?ve been mates with Shep since we were pre-teens, growing up together on the sporting fields of ...

  • Round 18 - Sydney v Adelaide: The Red & White Unite
    by joemoore12
What a harrowing week. What a shockingly shameful week. For the past six days, distorting truths has become as much a sport as football is. For the past six days, a great Australian has been shown such a lack of respect and common decency, that I?ve been ashamed of my fellow Australian. Today, the Sydney Swans will play the Adelaide Crows at the SCG. Adam Goodes will not be playing. We all know the reasons why. It saddens me, and many others, that a man who shows exemplary respect and understandi...

  • Round 11- North Melbourne v Sydney: The Union of Old Friends
    by joemoore12
For the past four years, I have attempted to juggle full-time study with full-time employment. This has resulted in a full-time headache. However, the end is nigh, and it is now more than ever, that I appreciate the unquestionable need to seek the support of old friends. This week has meant exams. Exams mean study, and study means no footy until the weekend. Not ideal. Not at all. It?s been a long week. But, like an old and trusted friend, the Sydney Swans wait for me at the end of a week...

  • Round 9 ? Sydney v Carlton: Take me to the O?Reilly Stand
    by joemoore12
May 29, 2015. The Bloods have been afforded the privileged honour of kicking-off this year?s Indigenous Round. This proud club has a rich history of highly-skilled, hard-working and much-loved Indigenous heroes. From Elkin Riley of the 1950?s, to Abiana Davis who was drafted late last year, the Red & White faithful have adored and admired our Indigenous footballers. As we take on the Blues, thoughts of current and former favourites take hold. Tonight is a celebration. Helping to celebrate the contrib...
